I don't know the name of this character.
From the filename of the reference sheet I received,
I guessed that her name was Bandung...
Further Googling gave me another sheet with her name listed as Nala.
Originally, I was working on this for the INHeritage Fanart Contest,
but I couldn't make the dead-line.
So I dedicate this artwork as a tribute to the project.
I had some high expectations for this artwork, but they didn't materialize in time,
or in the way I wanted to due to my lack of confidence and knowledge.
The first few days of working on this, starting with the lineart,
my computer crashed so many times, I lost interest in doing any more until I got a new PC
...which was in June (for my birthday).
Some things I noticed while working on this:
- Doing lineart is the hardest part. The more details, the more complex and confusing it becomes.
So I ended up leaving out some parts of the outfit, since I had some difficulty with the perspective.
- I discovered a more efficient way to shade digitally in Autodesk Sketchbook Designer. But I also
realized that my control over blending colors is limited. So I need to study and try more techniques.
- Making displacement masks can prove to be tricky depending on the level of accuracy needed.
- I needed to experiment more with layer masks when making my backgrounds
as a lot of original details are lost, when merging the bg and fg elements together
with the use of lighting effects.
- Wait what?! Her tail is actually her pony-tail?!
So I failed this challenge but I've learned many things in the process.
At least I decided to finish this to the best of my current abilities, instead of leaving it in obscurity.
I will continue to challenge myself in making more detailed and complex artwork.
So for now please bear with my somewhat futile attempts at perfection...
